Elements of Plot

Reader's Workshop

HW: RJ 3.3 T.O. p. 119-130

We started class with Kaio presenting his blog, and then choosing me because Henry bribed him with money. We then corrected Kaio's blog, which did not have many mistakes. Then, everybody took out their homework from last night and shared their summaries for T.O.  with each other. Kaio volunteered for Ulyses to share his summary, and we also heard Ian's. Ms. Nakada went over the chapter with us, and we all got post-it notes to use for our books. Ms. Nakada makes the inference that Sandy is pregnant, which is why she leaves and goes to her grandmother's house. We annotated a few pages and then started the next activity on the agenda. Ms. Nakada tells us to get our English notebooks out so we can start the next part of class, which is learning about elements of plot. Edie and Henry try to convince Ms. Nakada to play the State Farm commercial that we were talking about. Then, Ms. Nakada makes a story out of Owen losing the cap to Henry's pen. We learn that the components of the elements of plot are: setting, characters, conflict, rising action, climax, denouement, and resolution. Henry asks Ms. Nakada to play the commercial once again, and she plays it for us. Edie's life is now complete, and we begin reader's workshop. Owen finishes his star test, Olivia reads Everything Everything, and a lot of the class reads The Outsiders. The bell is about to ring, and everyone gets ready to leave for fourth period.
